Fill a basin or sink: Fill a clean basin or sink with lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water, as it can shrink or damage certain fabrics. Choose a suitable detergent: Select a mild detergent specifically formulated for hand washing. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals, unless recommended by the garment’s care label.
Pre-treat stains: Gently treat any visible stains with a stain remover or a small amount of detergent. Rub the fabric gently with your fingers to work the solution into the stain.
Immerse the clothes: Submerge the clothes in the water, one piece at a time. Gently agitate the water with your hands to create a soapy solution.
Wash the clothes: Gently rub and squeeze the clothes in the soapy water, paying attention to any soiled areas. Be careful not to stretch or wring the fabric, as it can cause damage.
Rinse thoroughly: Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean lukewarm water. Rinse each garment individually, swishing them around in the water to remove all traces of detergent.
Dry the clothes: Lay a clean towel on a flat surface and place the washed clothes on top. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can fade colors. Squeeze out excess water: Lay the sweater on a towel and roll the sweater up in the towel and twist the towel to get water out. Take the sweater out of the towel and lay it flat on a dry towel to dry.
Iron or steam if necessary: Once the clothes are dry, you may need to iron or steam them to remove wrinkles. Use the appropriate heat setting for the fabric type.
